Dr. Miller is publishing an upcoming book called: "The Many Spaces of Silence." She is sharing the introduction for the book which will be published in late 2025:
It is in the spaces of silence, we can find ourselves feeling lost-isolated within emotions which are difficult to name, stories fragments yet to be shared, and a deep longing for emotional connection. In order to be seen- and for the silence to become a space of healing- there must be safety of a healthy relationship, one both nurtured and sustained. Over the last 25 years, my research and practice have shown me the profound importance of honouring stories. I have come to understand how silence, when held with care, can be harvested into conversations- especially, as people (the survivors) identify how the role of self-determination helps in the healing of trauma. Over the years, I have had the good fortune to see how the human spirit displays significant vitality: sorrow turned into insight, terror transformed into human resiliency and silence becomes midwifed into voice through connection and compassion. To those who shared their stories: it has been an honour. To those whose stories remain held within: know that you are not alone.
